Homemade christmas presents?
This year, because I have little money to buy gifts for my relatives, I want to make them something. It would be for aunts, uncles, grandparents. I’m 16, but I do have access to items such as wood, woodworking materials, craft items, paint, wire, items like that. Does anybody have any ideas as to what I could make them that they would like?

Neil answers:
Well, this year I am trying something a little different myself. I am crocheting some throw blankets. Cost $15-$30 for your supplies depending on how big you make it and if you have to buy a hook. I don’t know your budget, but if you have an aunt and uncle together, maybe they could share. It does take time though. I’m trying a big fat “q” hook. And it goes sooooo much faster then a small hook.
I’ve also made fudge and put it in nice packaging. It’s a warm gift to give to them if they have a family.
If you have artistic skills and some creativity, my Aunt makes nativity characters out of large rocks that she paints and add cloth bits (as clothes) and other props. They are actually super cool.

CREATIVEMINDS, I need help with Christmas Shopping ?
K, I need to start looking around for Christmas presents. I’m looking for 3 people.
First of all, my dad. He’s one of those kinda of guys who are always working. He does woodworking and is a carpenter. .. What should I get him ? I was think along the lines of a Home Depot Gift Card .. Any other ideas ?
Secondly, my mom. She’s kinda hard to shop for.. She doesn’t really care about fashion or jewellery. Or make-up. She likes doing crafts though. Ideas for her ?
And last but not least, my brother. He’s your typical 10 year old boy,who likes video games and action figures. I don’t want to get him either of those though. He has too many. What could I get him ? Posters , or something.
HELP! I really want this to be a good Christmas, every year I usually get those cheap little trinkets, or homemade things. This year, I plan on spending roughy $50-65 dollars on each. Also, I cant shop online because I’m only 14.
PLEASEHELP !

Neil answers:
Get your Dad a Canadian Tire gift card because the store has a lot he’d like; your mom – a tapestry to sew, maybe of something she likes, like a basket of kittens; your brother – the Spiderman video or DVD, or whatever movie he likes best.

Tips for working with wood?
Anyone familiar with working with wood? I’m looking for tips for woodworking, specifically Hawaiian Curly Koa wood. General tips and tips on preparing plain wood for use in crafts would be much appreciated.

Neil answers:
I would suggest checking to see if there is a local woodworking club. Most places have one. There is so much to learn and that is a good way to get started. Most woodworkers love to share what they know and can be very helpful in getting a person started.
Here is one of several sites with a list of clubs.

Need Help Thinking Of A Name For My Craft Business…Any Creative People With Some Ideas?
Hi, I have started taking up a few different crafts and projects and I am going to start an online site with it to try to make some money for school. I can’t think of a good name and any help would be great. It is mostly sewing play food, making doll food out of clay. some jewelry, home decor and some personalized items for kids(jewelry boxes, necklaces, etc.) I would like to eventually take up some pottery and woodworking. I know that is a little all over the place but I want it all on one site and not 4 or 5 different ones. There isn’t a specific style (vintage for example) so I can’t really get a good idea. Again any help would be great. THANKS!!!

Neil answers:
Something memorable and fun – something people can pronounce and it also tells them what you are offering. How about something along the lines of:
Kids Krafts
Crafty Corner
Gifts Galore
Play-time Crafts
Its playtime online
Crazy Crafts
Crafty Gifts
Now I’m just throwing things out there but it may help you come up with a really good idea! Try writing down things that rhyme or just as many descriptive words as you can think of.
Have fun with it. ; )

Hmmmmmm…what’s wrong with putting a date on your calendar and doing the shopping one day for project (or children) and then doing the project. Seems like that way you can choose what YOU want to do (or your child/children can) and it will be fun. I DO buy via internet but you have to be very careful. Try these links.
