Etsy! Etsy! Etsy! You’ll love it! (www.etsy.com)
Unfortunately, because it’s so great and popular, it also means there are a LOT of sellers on there and your shop can become lost. But lots of people make a good living from it as well. Good luck!

Www.etsy.com is a great site to list on. Not only is it well known but it also is a lot less expensive.

The stores are free, listing an item is only .20 and the Final Value Fees are low.

Downfall is that there are a lot of people that sell the same items so sometimes it takes a while to get your first sale.

Other sites you may look into is

artfire.com
shophandmade.com
sassybids.com

John Questions And Answers On Handmade Crafts Website

John asks…

Do I need a Business License for an online website in California?

I want to make an online website to sell my handmade goods/crafts and use Paypal for payment. I buy the supplies for the goods in craft stores and Ebay, but I want to buy some supplies wholesale.

I will be the only person behind the website. Am I required to have a business license for this in California?

Neil answers:

Not if its a hobby.
Read the articles in the below links to distinguish the difference between a hobby and a business.

To buy wholesale, you do need a seller’s permit. BUT, that also means that you must pay taxes as a business to the state.

If you decide that what you will be doing is really a business, you need at least these four things!:
1. DBA (doing business as) or FBN (fictitious business name). -get this so that you don’t have to run a company under your name.
2. EIN (employee id number). -get this so that you don’t need to use your social security number.
3. Seller’s Permit or Tax ID- get this to pay taxes to your state or buy wholesale or sell products.
4. Business License.

Get those in that order!

They all build up to getting the business license.

Best of Luck
